BC Liberal candidate for Vancouver-Point Grey welcomes today’s BC Government announcement that will see ride-sharing introduced in British Columbia.
VANCOUVER, B.C. (March 7, 2017) – Today, the BC government announced plans to move forward with a made-in-BC model for ride-sharing in the Province. The issue was brought forward at the BC Liberal convention this past November by party members, led by Vancouver-Point Grey candidate, James Lombardi. Standing on the floor alongside other millennial members to advocate for ride-sharing, Lombardi said, “I’ve seen ride-sharing work. As the party of ‘Yes,’ let’s get to ‘yes’ on ride-sharing.” The resolution passed and saw 81 per cent of members support adopting legislation ‘at the nearest opportunity’.
“I’m thrilled to see our government taking action to give British Columbians more choice in transportation while ensuring safety and a level playing field in our province,” said Lombardi. “Ride-sharing is good for our economy, good for our environment, and gives consumers choices on demand at their fingertips.”
If the BC Liberals are re-elected in May, the Government will introduce the necessary legislation to pave the way for ride-sharing before the end of 2017.
“As an innovative city and a global technology hub, we need to be forward thinking in our systems and transportation, and we need to support and reflect what our constituents are asking for,” Lombardi continued.
